Tummy Tuck (Lipolysis and Dermolipectomy)

I had my children over 30 years ago and I always wanted to remove the sagging skin and ugly cesarean scar. Dr. Cappiello did my tummy tuck and I slept right through it. I had minimal discomfort for one day and I went back to work in one week. I went to the surgery center at 7 AM and by 3:00 in the afternoon I was home. I am still happy with the way I look.

Liposuction of Fat and Removal of Excess Skin

This "tummy tuck" is an operation that is designed to remove excess skin from the abdomen at the same time, tightening the abdominal muscles. It is indicated in cases where there is laxity of the abdomen resulting in bulging due to abnormal stretching of the abdominal muscles and skin. Unlike liposuction surgery, which just removes fat, this operation involves removal of skin and fat, with tightening of the abdominal muscles. For this reason, it is more extensive than liposuction alone.

Prior to surgery, the amount of skin that is to be removed is carefully marked. The operation is usually carried out under tumescent or general anesthesia. In our office only tumescent anesthesia is used. The tumescent anesthesia for tummy tuck has become one of the safest methods available, without any known operative mortality in the hands of qualified surgeon in the use of tumescent anesthesia. YOU ARE AWAKE AND ABLE TO INTERACT WITH THE DOCTOR AND THE STAFF. The tumescent anesthesia provides almost a pain-free, post operative course.

An incision is made in the bikini line and the excess skin is pulled down and inward, and is removed along with underlying fatty tissue. The muscles are tightened as required, the skin is carefully re-draped and the incision closed with several layers of suture. This procedure has minimal complications than the traditional abdominoplasty. The blood supply as well as the nerves and lymphatic are spared providing less morbidity and a fast recovery.
